the 16th century Collegio Maria Luigia, built on the site of a previous palace called Arena, dating back to 1159, the time of Federico I, was enlarged and transformed between 1836 and 1847 by Nicola Bettoli. The architect had been entrusted with the works by Marie Louise from Austria, who wanted it to become the seat of the Ducal College, founded in 1831.

To be mentioned, the interiors decorated by Lattanzio Gambara, Michelangelo Anselmi, Giovanni Gaibazzi, a collection of portraits and exquisite paintings kept in the chapel.
